How to do it
- 1Work out your situation, because the documents differ: tenant, staying with a private person, or living in a hotel.
- 2If you are a tenant, keep a recent proof in your name: electricity, gas, water, landline or internet bill, rental lease or rent receipt.
- 3If you are staying with a private person, ask them for a dated and signed attestation d'hébergement (a free template is available on service-public.gouv.fr), a copy of their identity card or residence permit, and a proof of address in their name if the address on their card is out of date.
- 4If you live in a hotel, ask for a certificate from the hotel manager and keep the bill for the last month.
- 5Scan these documents and keep them up to date: the bank, the CAF and the prefecture will ask for them.
What you need
- Lease, rent receipt or recent bill in your name
- If you are staying with someone: signed attestation d'hébergement, copy of your host's ID, proof of address in your host's name
Tips
- Ask for your rent receipt every month: it is the easiest proof to provide when you do not yet have a bill in your name.
- A secure proof of address (with a 2D-Doc barcode) cannot be refused for a residence permit application.
- If you move after validating your visa, keep the proofs of your new address: for the renewal, you will have to provide a recent proof of address.
