How to do it
If you submit your renewal late, you will have to pay an additional regularisation visa fee (droit de visa de régularisation): do not let your permit expire.
- 1Find the expiry date of your VLS-TS or residence permit and set yourself a reminder well in advance.
- 2Gather your supporting documents: enrolment for the next year, transcripts and diplomas obtained, proof of resources of at least 877,5 €/month.
- 3Get a digital ID photo (e-photo) and keep its code safe: the form asks for it.
- 4Submit your application on ANEF (administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr), within the window set before your permit expires.
- 5Follow your file on ANEF and reply quickly to any request for additional documents.
What you need
- Your current VLS-TS or residence permit and your passport
- E-photo with its code
- Certificate of enrolment or pre-enrolment for the coming year
- Transcripts from the past year and your latest diploma obtained in France
- Proof of resources: scholarship, regular transfers from a relative with their written statement, payslips or bank statements
- The signed contract committing you to respect the principles of the Republic
Tips
- Your studies must be real and serious: attendance and progress count, so keep your transcripts and certificates of success.
- If your resources come from several sources, prove each one separately.
- Depending on how long your studies have left, you may get a multi-year residence permit: check what applies to your situation.
- Budget for the fee: €100 for a temporary card, €150 for a multi-year card, paid with tax stamps.
- If the prefecture hasn't answered after 90 days, it counts as an implicit refusal: you then have 2 months to appeal.
