- No account
- Mbeng works without signing up. We don't ask for your name, nationality or phone number.
- Everything stays on your phone
- Your profile and progress are stored in your browser, not on a server.
- Your backup is yours
- To switch devices, export a file from settings and import it on the new one. You can erase everything at any time.
- Encrypted online backup
- Optional. If you turn it on, your profile and progress are encrypted on your phone with a key derived from your backup code, then sent. The server only keeps an encrypted block and an identifier: we can't read it or link it to you. Your code never leaves your phone. You can delete the backup at any time.
- Deadline reminders
- If you turn reminders on, we keep your upcoming deadlines (step, date, label) and your browser's notification address, to send you a reminder 7 days before and the day before. Nothing else from your profile. Turning reminders off deletes everything.
- Anonymous community answers
- After “Done”, an optional question asks you, for example, how long something really took. We only keep the step, your answer and the month: no identifier, no IP address, no profile. To block bots, the Cloudflare Turnstile check only loads at that moment, and a per-network limit is computed without keeping the IP address. Results appear on the guides only as a median or a percentage, from 5 answers: never a single answer.
- Suggested corrections
- The “Report an error or suggest an addition” button sends your text, the optional source link, the page, the language and the month. No name, no email, no IP address. Every suggestion is read and checked before the content changes. The same Cloudflare Turnstile check and per-network limit protect it.
- Questions asked
- When you use “Ask Mbeng”, we keep the text of your question, the language, the number of results and the month, to spot what is missing from the guides. No IP address, no identifier, nothing from your profile. Don't write personal details in it. To write the answer, your question and the passages found are sent to Claude (Anthropic), nothing else; by default, Anthropic does not use data sent through its API to train its models.
- No tracking
- No ads, no tracking, no fingerprinting. Fonts are hosted by Mbeng, with no request to Google. A cookie remembers the language you chose. Audience measurement works without cookies or identifiers: Vercel counts page views, and Mbeng counts a few actions per day (profile created, step marked done with its number, deadline added to your calendar, answer or suggestion sent), with no IP address and nothing from your profile. The Peerlist badge, at the bottom of the home page and « Who makes Mbeng? », is an image loaded from peerlist.io: as with any image from another site, Peerlist then sees your device's address.
- Independent
- Mbeng is not linked to any government body and does not replace official sources: every piece of information links to its own.
